“Yayin Kafrisin” is a daily reminder of the ancient Jewish history on this small island. It is situated on the Mediterranean Sea, approximately 150 miles from Israel. Close to 2,000 years after the Gemara, this island is back in Yiddish history under England monarchy, which colonized it with thousands of Jews caught making their way to Israel during WWII.
With the arrival of Rabbi Aryeh Zeev Riskin in 2003, yiddishkeit on the island lit back up. In addition to Larnaca, 3 cities on the island now house Jewish centers for over 520 families. Thousands of Jews also pass Cyprus on the way to and from Israel, and the kehilla is a safe haven for all Jews passing over the raging Mediterranean Sea.
While Rabbi Riskin ereceted a small mikva on his own property for residents and tourists, local authorities recently ordered the building, and mikva, to be taken down. Mikva Tahara is now helping the community build a beautifully new, legal mikva from scratch.
30-40 local families and dozens of students travel to Israel by plane for a kosher mikva. A local mikva will serve all 520 local families and Israeli tourists
