On rare occasions, we merit the opportunity to see a new mikva creating tectonic shift. The warm, welcoming Jewish community in Cherkassy, Ukraine is a shining example: we came in to help them, and they have since succeeded in helping so many more.
Before Mikva Tahara, the community’s women traveled over 200 kilometers each way to perform their mitzvah with hiddur. But of the 500 members, many found the journey too arduous, and painfully waited for the day they would have a locally accessible mikva.
Now, mere months after the new mikva was completed, the Cherkassy community is growing at a rapid rate! Hundreds are using the mikva religiously, more are signing up every day, and many Jews from neighboring cities are reconnecting with their heritage through the community’s Torah programs.
